A friendly greeting does not prove that a voice agent is ready. The meaningful test is whether it handles a real workflow, gives an honest outcome and leaves the caller knowing what happens next. Start with one defined job and test it from beginning to end.

Define success before the test

For an appointment-request assistant, success might mean collecting the service, preferred time and callback details, reading them back and explaining that confirmation is pending. For a connected booking workflow, success requires the actual booking result as well.

Use synthetic names and details while preparing tests. Identify the expected outcome for every case, including cases where the correct answer is a handoff or an admission that information is missing.

A practical checklist

  1. Routine call: Can the agent answer an approved question and complete its assigned flow?
  2. Missing knowledge: Does it avoid inventing a price, policy or service?
  3. Correction: If the caller changes the day or spells a name again, does the final result reflect the correction?
  4. Interruption: Does it stop, listen and resume without losing the request?
  5. Unclear speech: Does it ask for clarification instead of guessing a reference code?
  6. Action failure: Does it distinguish failure or an uncertain result from success?
  7. Human request: Does the configured handoff work, including its unavailable-destination fallback?
  8. Closing: Does the caller hear what was completed, what remains pending and who follows up?

Test each supported language separately. English and Turkish versions need their own checks for dates, names, numbers and tone; a translated prompt alone is not evidence of equal behaviour.

Check the outcome outside the conversation

Review the available call record and any action result. Confirm that the message is understandable to the team and does not silently change a request into a booking. If you connect a calendar or another system, inspect that system’s result in the approved test setup.

Keep conversational tests separate from telephone-route tests. A successful simulation does not prove that the intended number, forwarding path, transfer destination or capacity works. Verify those through the supported setup before enabling customer traffic.

Fix the smallest demonstrated problem

Record the scenario, expected result and observed result. Adjust the relevant knowledge, instruction or application behaviour, then retest the failed case and any affected neighbouring cases. Avoid changing several unrelated settings at once.
